Profibe – How Does It Work?
August
6, 2008 by HealthSense
ProFibe is a water-soluble fiber
product containing guar gum and citrus pectin. Clinical studies have
shown that Cerburg Profibe effectively aids diet and exercise in
lowering cholesterol levels and in breaking down soft arterial plaque.
Zocor and Lipitor, generically known as simvastatin and atorvastatin
respectively, are HMG-CoA (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A)
reductase inhibitors, which are known lipid-lowering agents.
Fiber has long been recognized as important to health promotion and
disease prevention. Various health organizations, like the American
Heart Association, are recommending increased fiber in the diet
especially for those at risk of heart disease, those with
gastrointestinal problems and diabetes. Water-soluble fibers like gums,
mucilages, pectins, and algal polysaccharides such as those derived
from seaweeds have looser physical structures giving them greater
water-holding capacity.
ProFibe being a water-soluble fiber can:
- Delay
gastric emptying. Increased retention time of food in the stomach means
an earlier sense of fullness, helping to prevent overeating.
- Increase
intestinal transit time. Absorption of food takes place in the
intestine. Increased transit time means food passes quickly and there
would be less time for food to be absorbed, particularly preventing
much fat to be absorbed.
- Slow
glucose absorption. Excess glucose in the bloodstream that are not
utilized for energy needs are known to be stored as fats in the body.
- Be
fermented in the colon into short-chain fatty acids that may inhibit
liver cholesterol synthesis and help clear LDL cholesterol. The fatty
acids are also believed to be responsible in interfering with adhesive
property of plaque resulting in dissolution of blockage caused by
arteriosclerosis.
- Bind
bile acids and cholesterol, resulting in increased excretion.
If you suffer from high cholesterol, you are at risk of heart
diseases, check out Profibe now to learn how to reduce
cholesterol levels in a natural and safe way.
What ProFibe Can do
for you?
The recommended three
servings per day of ProFibe™
can provide as much beneficial water-soluble fiber
as a bushel of apples, a
dozen oranges, or a bucket of
oatmeal. ProFibe™
accomplishes this by complexing
its components into a powder that the body can use 100
percent. Each 10.4 gram serving of ProFibe™ contains
a minimum 6 grams of water-soluble fiber, something
you cannot get from a single serving of fruit or other
supplements.
What Is ProFibe™?
Developed by a gastroenterologist and a chemist at
the University of Florida, ProFibe™ is a water-soluble
fiber formula consisting of three elements: 1)guar gum;
2) unmodified citrus pectin; and 3) non-GMO soy
‘protein’.
It’s all in the complexing. While there is nothing
remarkable about these three natural products by
themselves, ProFibe™ uses a patented complexing
process that transforms them into a powerful engine
for reducing cholesterol levels by as much as 25 to 30
percent in one month.
Other benefits may include a reduction in
atherosclerosis; better digestion; improved glucose
tolerance; weight loss and lowered blood pressure.
In addition, many ProFibe™ users report enhanced
energy levels—all without expensive medications and
their potential side effects.

The Science behind
ProFibe
In 1993, James J. Cerda, M.D., (Gastroenterologist,
Paul Dudley award winner, Ret. Rear Admiral) and
Charles Burgin, after researching the effects of watersoluble
fiber (WSF) for nearly two decades, discovered
that by complexing a protein to the fiber they could
prevent it from leaching out and becoming slimy or
sticky. This discovery meant that people could easily
consume the quantity of WSF necessary to lower LDL
cholesterol.
ProFibe™ uses unmodified citrus (not grapefruit)
pectin and guar gum as its water-soluble fiber source.
The citrus pectin is extracted using the same method
used to extract protein from soybeans. The sugars, oils,
and bioflavonoids are removed.
This synergy between a natural fiber product such as
ProFibe™ and a synthetic pharmaceutical has enabled
thousands of people to lower their cholesterol to the
point where they are able—with their physician’s advice
and at their direction---to reduce their dosage of statin
drugs significantly or eliminate them altogether.
How Does ProFibe™ Do What It Does?
Our researchers discovered that by complexing the
WSF to a natural protein, such as soy, the body is able
to utilize 100 percent of the fiber intake. Bacteria in the
large intestine break down the WSF into short-chain
fatty acids, which is believed to lower LDL cholesterol
and to interfere with the adhesion of plaque to arterial
walls, thus reducing blockage.
Moreover, one of the well-known characteristics of
water-soluble fiber is that it inhibits glucose absorption
(think oatmeal), slowing down the
absorption of sugar
and a corresponding rise in insulin production,
which
can lead to cravings for yet more sugar and starches.
ProFibe™ helps you get off this treadmill, control your
blood sugar and increase your
cardiovascular health.

It Worked for Them
The people profiled here—and thousands like them—have
achieved remarkable results using ProFibe™ to lower
their LDL cholesterol and reduce atherosclerosis, with no
side effects.
I’ve been taking ProFibe™ since July 1997, and it’s been
a lifesaver. I’m a 65-year old, 180-lb male with a family
history of heart disease. For exercise, I try to walk five
times per week.
In July 1998 after chest pains a scan showed plaque in
the arteries. On a scale of one to five, I was a four.
On an angiogram in February 2002 the doc found that I
had no plaque in my arteries. The people in the testing room
could hardly believe it. They said I had the arteries of an 18
year old, and that whatever you’re doing—keep doing it!
The only thing in my life I’ve changed is taking ProFibe™,
after reading an article in USA Today in 1997. It doesn’t
happen overnight, but it sure was worth the wait.
It’s for sure I’ll be taking ProFibe™ for the rest of my life.
Thanks for great research and for making this product.
Bob H. Las Vegas, NV
“After being on ProFibe™ for three months, my cholesterol
has fallen from 243 to 188. Thank you so much for your
help!”
L.M.H., Belton, TX
I started using ProFibe™ in September 2007 when my
total cholesterol was 191. I recently (2/08) tested and my
total dropped to 161. I have to believe ProFibe™ played
a big role in producing such good numbers. Thanks for
a great product.

Clinical Study Proved ProFibe
In
1994-1995, Cerda and Burgin conducted human
studies that enabled them document the extraordinary
benefits of three servings of ProFibe™ per day. Fasting
cholesterol tests were taken on subjects at the beginning
of the study. Subjects then received three servings per
day of ProFibe™ for 30 days.
The result: An average 30 percent reduction in
LDLcholesterol levels without a change in diet or lifestyle.
In 1994, Cerda and Burgin documented the efficacy
of WSF in regressing arterial soft plaque in an article
published in Clinical Cardiology (“Grapefruit Pectin
Inhibits Hypercholesterolemia and Atherosclerosis in
Miniature Swine,” 11.595-600, 1998).
More than a decade after ProFibe’s introduction to the
market, this original research continues to be validated
over and over.
For Stubborn Cholesterols,
the Added Boost of ProFibe™
Made the Difference:
A 53-year-old Caucasian female taking 10mg of Zocor
per day. Total cholesterol was 249, LDL-C was 158, and
triglycerides were 198. After 30 days of three servings
of ProFibe™ per day, along with 10mg of Zocor, the
following results were observed: Total cholesterol: 216;
LDL-C: 134; Triglycerides: 130; The subject’s risk factor
also improved from 3.1 to 2.4 in just 30 days.
A 61-year-old Caucasian female with a recent history
of CAD was taking 20mg of Mevacor per day. Total
cholesterol was 301; LDL-C was 141. After only 14 days of
taking three servings of ProFibe™ per day, together with
Mevacor, total cholesterol dropped to 214, while LDL-C
was reduced to 84. Risk factor dropped from 4.7 to 3.2.
These kinds of results are why people
worldwide are discovering that they
can enjoy better health and a
reduced chance of cardiovascular illness
by using safe, all-natural ProFibe™. |

I cannot thank you enough for
ProFibe™. My wife first
learned about it in Jean Carper’s book, Miracle Cures.
She shared it with me not long after my heart attack in
2000 (I am now 59 years old). It has been a great help
in lowering my cholesterol. So, although I cannot thank
you enough, here is a start: THANK YOU!
Rev M, OH
I have been using ProFibe™ for about a year in order to
lower total cholesterol and eliminate Lipitor. The results
have been excellent.
BHH, S
I had problem with one of my eye and I decided to clean
the vasel in my body so it possibly could help with my vision.
I learn you need to be consistant and take profibe regularly
for many months 3 times a day with milk, orange juice and...
I help myself with stoping and improving my vision.
Ted Jec.
Jean Carper, leading authority on health and nutrition,
columnist for USA WEEKEND and best-selling author,
highlights the positive effects of ProFibe™ in her book Miracle
Cures stating that “It seems to be almost an instant super cure
for high cholesterol in many people...”
Robert Kowalski, author of The 8-Week Cholesterol Cure
and The New 8-Week Cholesterol Cure is also known for
recommending ProFibe™ as “the only practical and good
alternative to whole foods for reducing cholesterol.”
A long story short...my husband’s Cardiologist
expressed concern regarding my husband’s high TC so
my husband told his Dr. that he would go on ProFibe™.
The Doctor stated that it would do no good, etc.
My husband took ProFibe™ ...never missed a day. The
next check up his cholesterol was 178. His Cardiologist
refused to listen to anything about ProFibe™. One of the
nurses asked how to purchase ProFibe™ as her husband
was fighting a losing battle with cholesterol. The next
time we talked to her, she expressed her gratitude for
our making her aware of your product....her husband’s
cholesterol was under control. She had, obviously,
made the Cardiologist aware of her husband’s progress
with ProFibe™.
Some time later, we overheard the Dr. ask his assistant
if she had ordered his case of ProFibe™. We looked at
each other and winked and smiled. (Some people have
to learn the hard way).

SQUEEZING
OUT CHOLESTEROL
Medical
researchers have known for years that water-soluble fibers (WSF) can
reduce cholesterol.
The
trick was to "package" such fibers in a form patients could, and would,
take.
The
slimy, sticky pure form of these fibers is not very appetizing, and
people would have to eat enormous amounts of fruits or other foods
daily to get beneficial amounts. Even in dry form, the effective
amounts would require taking dozens of pills each day.
So
Dr. James Cerda, a specialist in gastroenterology and nutrition in the
University of Florida College of Medicine, and retired UF chemist
Charles Burgin invented ProFibe(TM), a tasteless powder mixture of
citrus pectin, guar gum and soy protein that can be mixed into drinks
and sprinkled on foods.
Clinical
studies by Cerda at the Clinical Research Center of Shands Hospital at
UF found that adding 15 grams of grapefruit (citrus) pectin to the
daily diet reduced cholesterol levels by an average of 11 percent
within four weeks.
ProFibe(TM)
can be used in conjunction with diet and exercise to naturally reduce
moderately high cholesterol, and in conjunction with
cholesterol-lowering medicine to control severe cases.
"This
is not a medicine," says Cerda. "It is a natural blend of water-soluble
fiber, and it lacks the side effects that sometimes occur with
cholesterol-lowering drugs."
Today,
CerBurg, the company Cerda and Burgin founded, is selling about 120,000
cans of ProFibe(TM) a year from its South Daytona Beach, Fla.
headquarters. Typical monthly use is about three cans at an average of
$29.00 per can. UF holds the patent on ProFibe(TM) and has licensed it
exclusively to CerBurg.
CerBurg
President and CEO Al Burgin, Charles Burgin's son, says the fact that
ProFibe(TM) was developed at a major university using rigorous
scientific protocols lends it great credibility in the marketplace.
"We've
based everything we say about ProFibe(TM) on the research conducted at
the university," Al Burgin says. "We don't want to be thought of as
some snake oil salesmen."
Indeed,
Burgin says, initial results from a study of ProFibe(TM) users
indicates the formula is actually exceeding expectations compared to
the clinical studies.
"We've
had five of 40 subjects tested, and three of the five had noticeable
regression in arterial plaque," Burgin says. "The other two didn't show
any regression, but they also didn't show any progression, so the
ProFibe(TM) seems to be keeping things in check."
Al
Burgin calls CerBurg a "virtual" company. All of the manufacturing and
distribution is contracted out, keeping costs low. Burgin says CerBurg
buys the highest-quality raw materials available and closely monitors
manufacturing at a plant in the Midwest.
"The
way we are currently structured, we pay only for services rendered by
the companies we contract with under non-disclosure agreements," Burgin
says. "If we were vertically or horizontally integrated in production,
we would not only have to invest millions initially, but would incur
the operational expenses associated with ownership of plants and
equipment."
ProFibe(TM)
is sold via mail order, in health food stores, by request through
Publix pharmacies and at selected Kmart, Target, and GNC stores. Burgin
says people who are considering trying ProFibe(TM) are advised to
discuss it with their doctor.
"Compared
to what they hear about drugs, doctors receive very little nutritional
training in medical school, so they are often skeptical about natural,
nutritional approaches to health," Burgin says. "Our approach is to
sell physicians on ProFibe(TM) through their patients. If they see good
numbers from patients using ProFibe(TM), they may prescribe it for
other patients."
Look
around you. Count the number
of people you can see as you read this. Now imagine half of them
gone. Statistically, nearly half the population will die of heart
disease or a cardiovascular related illness nearly one in two! If
you are married, the odds are that one of you will succumb to this
killer.
A significant factor in heart
disease and
related conditions such
as high blood pressure and stroke is artheriosclerosis (clogging of the
arteries by accumulated LDL [low-density lipoprotein the "bad
cholesterol"]
in the form of plaque). Several factors contribute to
cholesterol
levels: smoking, exercise, diet, stress, and heredity.
Studies show that every 1 percent
drop in
blood cholesterol results
in a 2 percent drop in your risk of heart disease. This is
wonderful
news but without an effective, inexpensive, safe way to drop blood
cholesterol
levels and to repair the damage already done this news is possibly
useless.
The ProFibe
Answer
Fortunately, there is an effective,
inexpensive, safe way to lower
blood cholesterol. It's called ProFibe and it's been changing people's
health, and their lives, for many years.
ProFibe is a water-soluble fiber
supplement containing guar gum
and citrus pectin. These water soluble fibers are complexed to
soy
protein to increase palatability and functionality. ProFibe is a
tasteless
powder, which is mixed into prepared foods or blended into
beverages.
It is approved under the FDA’s G.R.A.S.
(Generally Recognized as Safe)
ruling and
accepted by the joint
FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. Since it is a
constituent
of all plants, soluble fiber has long been part of the human
diet.
National and international food regulations recognize that
water-soluble
fibers are valuable foods and can reduce the risk of heart disease.
The
Astounding
Results of ProFibe
ProFibe can reduce cholesterol
levels up
to 25-30 percent for most
users in as little as a month in some cases, a drop of more than 50
points!
That's good news for preventing future artheriosclerosis but that's not
all!
ProFibe has also been shown to
reduce
existing arteriosclerosis
(soft plaque) by one third or more plaque that is clinging to the
arterial
walls, preventing the free flow of blood, actually reduces and begins
to
disappear. Moreover, ulceration of the arterial walls, caused by the
damaging
plaque, heals.
Many people have been able, under
the
supervision of their physicians,
to discontinue taking cholesterol reducing prescription medications
because
the results they've obtained with ProFibe have been so promising.
Many prescription cholesterol reducers have significant side
effects.
ProFibe not only greatly improves these patients' cardiovascular
health,
but reduces their risk of developing other potentially serious health
problems
as well.
WHAT ARE
YOU
WAITING FOR?

ProFibe! A simple step towards reducing
an important risk factor
for heart disease!
ProFibeTM was designed to be a valuable addition to your total personal
health program. This information will help you make the best use of
ProFibe.
Please let us know if your questions are not answered
What is ProFibe?
ProFibe is a uniquely manufactured, water
soluble fiber (WSF) product.
ProFibe has been clinically demonstrated to be an effective adjunct to
diet and exercise for reducing cholesterol levels and reducing soft
arterial
plaque. ProFibe is approved under the FDA G.R.A.S. ruling (Generally
Recognized
As Safe) and accepted by W.H.O. (World Health Organization).
Why reduce cholesterol?
A high cholesterol level, especially the
type known as Low Density Lipid
cholesterol (LDL) has been identified as a major risk factor for heart
disease. To some extent, cholesterol levels are determined by heredity.
However, most people can lower high cholesterol levels by attention to
diet, exercise, and sufficient daily intake of fiber.
Why Fiber?
Most health authorities, including the
American Heart Association and
Federal Government agencies concerned with health, now recommend
increasing
fiber in the daily diet. This is especially important for people at
risk
for heart disease. Fiber has long demonstrated its effectiveness in
reducing
cholesterol. However, most people in developed countries have a
difficult
time consuming the amounts of fruits, vegetables and whole grain needed
to obtain optimal amounts of fiber in their daily diet.
Why Water Soluble Fiber?
For years researchers have known that
water soluble fiber (WSF) could
dramatically reduce cholesterol levels. While all fiber is useful, WSF
has proven itself most effective. Water Soluble Fiber includes
substances
such as guar gum, locust bean, and citrus pectin.
How is ProFibe different from fiber
products I may now be using?
Most fiber products recommended for
‘regularity’ contain psyllium husk,
which is an insoluble fiber. Similarly, oat bran, while a healthful
product,
is not 100% water soluble fiber. Clinical studies have found ProFibe,
which
contains only water soluble fibers (WSF) to be as effective for most
people
as prescription medication such as Mevacor and Zocor, for example.
Why don’t we use more Water Soluble
Fiber?
Although water soluble fiber (WSF) is
highly effective in reducing cholesterol
levels, it would be difficult to eat the enormous amounts of apples,
grapefruit
or similar foods each day needed for sufficient amounts. In their
"pure"
or isolated form, water soluble fiber products are slimy and sticky,
and
most people will not consume the amounts needed for optimal results. In
dry form, as pills, the effective amounts would require taking dozens
of
pills each day, a costly and inconvenient regimen
What is special about ProFibe?
ProFibe is made from guar gum and citrus
pectin. Each serving of ProFibe
contains the citrus pectin of two whole grapefruit -- rinds and all!
After
years of experimentation, we at CerBurg developed a manufacturing
process
to complex water soluble fiber (guar gum and citrus pectin) with a
protein,
such as egg white or soy. This process offers a unique product that can
be easily taken each day in a palatable drink.
What are some of the advantages of
ProFibe?
Our unique manufacturing process offers
two benefits to the user. First,
ProFibe is a flavorless drink that most people tolerate well. Second,
our
unique manufacturing technique insures a 100% utilization of the water
soluble fiber.
Why use ProFibe?
Heart disease is the leading killer of
both men and women in the United
States today. As a cause of death, it leads cancer, AIDS, homicide and
accidents, COMBINED ! Your chance of dying from cardiovascular disease
is one in two or 50% !
Some risk factors for heart disease (such as heredity) cannot be
changed.
Fortunately, we can modify other risk factors, such as smoking, diet
and
exercise, by our own actions. Some authorities believe we could reduce
deaths from heart disease by up to 80% by modifying these ‘voluntary’
risk
factors.
One important risk factor for heart
disease is cholesterol level. If
your doctor has told you that your cholesterol level is high, diet and
exercise can help. For many people, however, diet and exercise are not
enough.
Each percentage point drop in cholesterol
levels is associated with
a decreased risk of heart disease. Clinical studies on human patients,
as well as animal studies have shown ProFibe can help lower cholesterol
levels, an important heart disease risk factor.
If I use ProFibe, can I forget about
diet, exercise and other risk
factors?
Definitely not! ProFibe is a valuable
addition to a total program of
a healthy diet, regular moderate exercise, blood pressure control,
stress
management, and elimination of smoking and excessive drinking. This is
a program for you to develop with your health-care provider. ProFibe
can
add to the effectiveness of this program by helping you to reduce
cholesterol.
Are there any side effects
when taking
ProFibe?
Water soluble fibers may create
flatulence. ProFibe is to be gradually
introduced into your daily routine to reduce the gas produced.
Individual
results vary.
Try ProFibe for just one month.
ProFibe helps most people lower
cholesterol, an important risk factor
for heart disease. The best way to see if ProFibe will work for you is
to try it for just one month. Ask your physician to order a fasting
cholesterol
screening.
Then take ProFibe, as directed, for four weeks (includes one week
gradual
incorporation). Finally, ask your physician for a second fasting
cholesterol
screening. This will be your best demonstration as to the value of
ProFibe
for you. If you are on prescription medication do not discontinue.
ProFibe
channels differently than drugs. After a period of time (60 days) you
may
be able to reduce the dosage or completely eliminate the prescription
medication.
Be sure to consult your health care provider.
How do I use ProFibe?
ProFibe is provided in a convenient 454
gm container, containing a one
(level) tablespoon scoop. Each can contains 44 servings. Take one half
scoop initially (WSF’s may produce flatulence) with a 10-12 oz. ( 300 - 350 ml ) glass
of
liquid such as water, apple, grape or cranberry juice, skim or soy
milk,
Crystal Light, Gatorade, etc.. Stir vigorously or shake well before
drinking.
Gradually increase your intake of ProFibe over the next several days to
reach one scoop, three times per day, preferably with meals.
May I take my entire daily ration of
ProFibe at once?
Our customers report best results when
ProFibe is taken three times
a day in equally divided doses. Three scoops a day, that’s the key!
What if I am taking a
cholesterol
lowering drug?
If you
are taking a prescription
medication such as Lovastatin, Mevacor,
Zocor, Questran or Pravachol, you may find that ProFibe further lowers
your cholesterol. Continue your medication as prescribed by your
physician.
If you are taking a drug such as Lopid, to lower triglycerides (another
blood lipid), these levels may also drop.
IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances
stop taking any prescribed medication
except under the supervision of your physician. Many people find they
can
reduce their drug intake when used in conjunction with ProFibe, but
this
is a decision to be made with your physician. See Conjunctive
Guidelines.

Functionality of ProFibe
Water soluble
fibers (guar gum, citrus pectin,
locust beans, etc.) are very viscous, slimy and sticky in their natural
state. It would be virtually impossible to consume therapeutic doses
(15
gms/day) of these fibers. What our researchers figured out was how to
reduce
the viscosity, slimy stickiness of WSF by complexing it to a protein
(egg
white, soy, etc.). Through the complexing of WSF to protein we were
able
to improve the actual functionality (benefit) of WSF by increasing the
utilization of the WSF by the body. This is accomplished by enzymes
from
the pancreas digesting the protein in the small intestines, releasing
the
WSF. The WSF passes into the large intestine where 100% of the fiber is
utilized. Bacteria in the large bowel breakdown the WSF into short
chain
fatty acids. It is the fatty acids we believe are responsible for
lowering
LDL-C and interfere with the adhesive characteristics of plaque
promoting
regression of artheriosclerosis (blockage). The flatulence (gas) one
experiences
is created by the bacterial action in the large intestine. The amount
of
flatulence can be effected by diet as well. Bean-O (3-5 drops) in your
ProFibe may eliminate the flatulence. Lessening of flatulence should
occur
over time but again remember diet plays a part too.
Side benefits which may be achieved by taking WSF (ProFibe):
improved
GI motility (transit time,
etc.)
improved glucose tolerance
(diabetics)
reduced prostates (men)
improved dental check-ups
due to improved vascular system
improved blood pressure
due to improved circulation to renal
artery
male libido
We at CerBurg firmly believe we are
just beginning to discover the
benefit of WSF to humanity. As we go forward with our artheriosclerosis

Profibe and Eye Problem:
ProFibe Studies Performed on 70-Year-Old Male
Dear Dr. Cerda and Mr. Burgin:
Mr. S.L. Garrett experienced visual transient ischemic attack symptoms
in left eye in December of 1994 and subsequent carotid ultrasound
examination in December of 1994 demonstrated moderate focal hard and
soft plaquing of the left common carotid artery with small area of
ulceration change in the central portion of the plaquing and this is
felt to account for patient’s visual transient ischemic attack
symptoms in left eye. The degree of stenosis was a little more
than 40% narrowing of the left common carotid artery. Patient had
mild plaquing and minimal narrowing otherwise in left internal and
external carotid arteries in the bulb and of the right common carotid
artery and right internal and external carotid arteries at the
bifurcation. Patient subsequently under went arteriography in
December of 1994 which confirmed and correlated one-to-one the
ultrasound findings of the left common carotid artery just beneath the
bifurcation with demonstration of small ulceration change in the area
of moderate plaquing with approximately 40% stenosis narrowing of
the left common carotid artery in this area.
Patient subsequently started on a ProFibe regime January of 1995 and
continued though to present, the end of May 1996, with repeat
ultrasound of the carotid arteries performed 5-28-96 demonstrating
improvement from the 1994 examination with previous ulceration changes
no longer identified and also of important note, there is diminished
component of plaquing of the left common carotid artery in the area
previously with only 20 to 25% relative narrowing stenosis currently
and with smooth margins of plaquing which has relatively flattened
configuration compared to prior examination. The left internal
and external carotid artery beyond the bifurcation along the carotid
bulb on the left, as well as right internal carotid artery bulb and
internal carotid artery and external c! arotid a rtery just passed the
bifurcation remaining relatively clear. There is demonstration of
excellent flow through the carotid arteries bilaterally
currently. This significant improvement of the left carotid since
1994 is felt directly attributable to the ProFibe regime.

The Best
Kept Secret to
Silencing the Killer Within
By Sheri Robbins
It’s
a
scary fact ¾ many of us have a killer
lurking within.
That
killer
has a name ¾ PLAQUE.
The simple word plaque may not sound
deadly, but its
components of elevated cholesterol, fatty substances and other deposits
may cause
blockage known as atherosclerosis. When
combined with high blood pressure, poor diet and smoking, this blockage
becomes
even more dangerous. The build up of plaque, which may become unstable
and
rupture, can form a blood clot which has the debilitating
ability to totally
block the blood’s flow through an artery.
This can result in a heart attack or stroke, two of the top
three leading
killers in America as indicated by the National Center for Health Statistics.
Fortunately,
the growing popularity of integrative medicine into medical practices
is paving
the way for safe, natural and effective solutions to what can be fatal
problems. More and more, both the
patient and health care provider are seeking solutions to medical
problems
which do not bring about additional difficulties, such as the ever
present side
effects so commonly found in many prescription drugs. As an example of
this
modern day trend, the American Heart Association cited one study
conducted in Toronto which determined that
out of 308
patients interviewed, 45 percent used complementary or alternative
medicines.
Incorporating
various methodologies with the conventional western approach of
medicine has
been something Jan Radzik, MD, is extremely familiar with and believes
in
wholeheartedly. Radzik, a member of the
Oregon Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and
a Founding
Diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine, serves as doctor
for the Oregon Center for Integrative Medicine. He has conducted years of research into the
reduction and reversal of calcified plaque, the silent killer. His studies have documented extraordinarily
successful
results for heart disease reversal and decalcification of plaque by as
much as
46 percent to 93 percent in as little as 7½ to 12 months.
One
of the
primary ingredients to his tried and true wellness program for
treatment of coronary
heart disease and carotid artery stenosis reversal is water soluble
fiber
(WSF), found in the pectin of grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Over two decades
ago, studies at the University of Florida proved
that citrus
pectin, when combined with guar gum and complexed to a
non-GMO (non-genetically modified organism) soy
protein result in a WSF supplement which is 100 percent usable by the
body. This led to the development of the
patented, award-winning formula which is found in the natural
supplement ¾
ProFibe.

Why
WSF and
why ProFibe™? Soluble fiber has been
recognized for its ability to lower total cholesterol and LDL-C (bad
cholesterol) therefore reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. In addition, soluble
fiber
regulates blood sugar which is a plus for people suffering from
diabetes. Robert Kowalski, author of The 8-Week Cholesterol Cure and The NEW
8-Week Cholesterol Cure can
attest to the benefits of soluble fiber.
Kowalski, a medical journalist at the time, was on a personal
mission to
find the best possible ways to care for his heart after he had suffered
a heart
attack at the age of 35 and by the age of 41 had undergone two coronary
bypass
surgeries. Known for starting the
soluble fiber movement with oat bran, Kowalski is also known for
recommending
ProFibe™ as “the only practical and good alternative to whole foods for
reducing cholesterol.”
Additional
studies
performed at the University of Florida determined that ProFibe™
can reduce
cholesterol levels by 331/3
percent
in as little as one month and can reduce existing soft plaque by
one-third or
more. The integration of ProFibe™ into an
existing treatment of niacin or cholesterol lowering medication, such
as statin
drugs, has successfully resulted in the decrease or elimination of the
need for
medication. Typically, optimal benefits
are achieved after 30 days of three servings a day.
Dr.
Radzik,
a devoted advocate of ProFibe™, has been using the natural supplement
in his Oregon practice since it was
first
introduced to the market over ten years ago.
“I love this product. It’s
viable, safe, has no side effects and takes care of lots of issues that
plague
today’s society,” stated Radzik. His
patients suffering from diabetes have experienced outstanding results
using
ProFibe™ in conjunction with a proper diet, exercise and certain
nutrients.
Jean
Carper, leading authority on health and nutrition, columnist for USA WEEKEND and best-selling author,
highlights
the positive effects of ProFibe™ in her book Miracle Cures
stating that
“It seems to be almost an instant super cure for high cholesterol in
many
people ….”
This
“super
cure” does not channel through the liver, but instead is broken down
into
short-chain fatty acids in the large bowel by bacteria.
Initially, this bacterial action may result
in flatulence, but should subside with time.
The quickest and easiest way to reduce this inconvenient symptom
is simply
by controlling diet and drinking the recommended daily dose of water. When compared to the risk of liver damage and
to the other side effects found in many prescription drugs used to
reduce
cholesterol, ProFibe™ offers the least risk.
Speaking
of
risk, if you are taking other medications, there is no cause for worry
of
grapefruit interference. Although ProFibe™
creators, Dr. James Cerda and Mr. Charles Burgin, used grapefruit
pectin in
their initial formula they changed course. Due to the possibility that grapefruit and
grapefruit juice could interfere with the absorption of certain
medications,
they decided to use purified pectin derived from other citrus fruits
such as
lemons and limes. This decision removed
concerns regarding medication absorption.
Not
only is
ProFibe™ safe and proven effective, it is easy to use. Three
servings a day are recommended for
optimal benefits. This provides as much
beneficial wsf as a bucket of oatmeal, a dozen oranges, or a bushel of
apples! Yet you cannot receive the same
healthy benefits from fruit alone or other supplements on the market. It is virtually tasteless when the powder is
mixed with liquids.
Be
prepared for significant results when you add ProFibe™ to a lifestyle
that
includes exercise, proper diet, and appropriate health care. ProFibe™ may be called a “super cure,” but it
works best in a well-rounded and medically approved way of life. As with any medical lifestyle change, it is
recommended that your physician be consulted prior to use.
Also, check with CerBurg for details to
discuss with your physician before stopping prescribed
cholesterol-lowering
medications.
ProFibe™
¾ the best
kept secret to silencing the
killer within. Now that is a secret
worth sharing!
Please
carefully READ labels for instructions before
opening ProFibe. Only unopened

days. Ship unopened product for return to

name, address and phone number to expedite refund.
It’s important to your success to
use ProFibe
properly
For best results using ProFibe, follow a recommended plan of
diet and
exercise. Do not stop taking any prescribed cholesterol lowering
medication until
after the benefits of ProFibe have been seen and only under the
supervision of
your physician. CerBurg
recommends a fasting baseline blood cholesterol profile within 30 days
before
initiating the use of ProFibe, and follow-up profiles periodically
thereafter
to chart your progress. Best results are
seen at three servings of ProFibe per day. Compare LDL-C to LDL-C, not
total
cholesterol. ProFibe is an on going
program
to achieve and maintain lower LDL levels and possible reduction of soft
plaque
in the arteries.
Water-soluble
fibers, including those
found in ProFibe, can increase flatulence.
This may be controlled by gradually introducing ProFibe
into your
diet to acclimate the body to the high fiber intake.
Diet, exercise, hydration, meds, etc. also
play a part in flatulence.
Stepping up
to good health
Introduce
ProFibe into your diet gradually. Serving
scoop is provided in each container of ProFibe. Serving size is 10.4 grams of powder (1
rounded tablespoon). Begin with 1/2
serving or less only once per day. Gradually
increase to one serving per day over a few days. Slowly
increase by 1/2 servings to 2 servings
per day (one morning and one evening) and then 3 servings per day (one
morning,
one noon and one
evening) over several weeks. Eventually
a heaping scoop in the morning and then another heaping scoop later in
the day is
an option that works well for many people.
Research accumulated over 50 years has found that 15 grams of
water-soluble fiber (wsf) per day (found in 3 servings of ProFibe) is
recommended for optimal benefits to lower elevated LDL-C (Journal
of
The Franklin Institute, Vol. 331.A. pp. 199-202, 1994). Research from UF found
that wsf can be beneficial in regressing soft plaque in the arteries. (Circulation.
1994;89:1247-1253; Clin. Cardiol. 11:595-600; 1988).
. ProFibe
should be
offset from prescription medications by one hour. ProFibe
is made of food ingredients and can
be taken with vitamins, minerals and supplements.
. Drink
plenty of water as recommended
by the American Medical Association.
. Best
results occur when ProFibe and
water are shaken. Add some water to a container; add ProFibe, then
remaining
liquid. Top on container and shake.
ProFibe
is a colloid; it suspends, does not dissolve.
Swirl if ProFibe begins to separate.
. Any liquid
you prefer may be used with ProFibe. Be
aware that fruit juices, for example, turn
to sugar in the body and could affect triglycerides in some people.
. Add to food after cooking process.
May be used in baking but not over 350 degrees.
. ProFibe
does not contain grapefruit. Original studies at UF began with
grapefruit
pectin then changed to citrus pectin (minus grapefruit). Grapefruit
juice and
grapefruit meat (not grapefruit pectin) are suspected to interfere with
certain
medications. However, to avoid
confusion, we do not use any form of grapefruit in the formulation of
ProFibe. ProFibe continues to be made
with non-genetically modified soy protein, guar gum(wsf), and citrus
pectin
(wsf) from lemons, limes, etc – no grapefruit.
Heart to Heart Quarterly Newsletter
Volume 1 Issue 8 March 15, 1997
Charlie's Heart "Well Charlie, I never
thought we would reach 75 years
old. I've watched you dodge a lot of bullets in our time together. You
did have enough sense though to make some serious changes as you got
older
and your knowledge of heart disease grew. Boy, am I glad!"
"Let's expand our knowledge a little more
about preventing heart disease
and perhaps even reversing heart desease. The first thing we need to do
is define what cholesterol is and comes from. "Cholesterol is a soft,
fat
like sub- stance found in all the body's cells. It is used to form cell
membranes, certain hormones and other necessary substances "People get
cholesterol in two ways.
The body - primarily the liver - produces
varying amounts, usually about
1,000 mg a .day. An additional 400 mg to 500 mg or more can come
directly
from foods. Foods from animals, especially egg yolks, meat, fish,
poultry
and whole milk dairy products, contain it; food from plants don't.
Typically
the body makes all the cholesterol it needs, so it's not something that
people need to consume to maintain their health."
"Besides being present in human tissues,
cholesterol is also found in
the bloodstream. The blood transports cholesterol to and from various
parts
of the body. Hypercholesterolemia is the term for high layers of
cholesterol
in the blood." Charly, I know this is pretty basic information but wait
until you see what high cholesterol can do to our arteries. Remember,
Charlie,
I only weigh a pound or two but I have the responsibility of pumping a
couple of thousand gallons of blood per day throughout our body."
"Now that I have your attention, let's
explore the relationship between
the different cholesterol components and what they represent." "The
levels
of HDL and LDL in the blood are measured to evaluate the risk of
arteriosclerosis."
"Arteriosclerosis is a general term for
the thickening and hardening
of arteries. Some hardening of arteries normally occurs when people
grow
older. Arteriosclerosis , a type of arteriosclerosis, comes from the
Greek
word athero (meaning gruel or paste)
